The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has officially launched Car Free Day, running from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM today, Saturday transforming parts of the city into a pedestrian paradise.
The event encourages active mobility, healthier lifestyles, and cleaner air, giving residents a chance to enjoy the city in a whole new way on foot, by bicycle, or even rollerblades!
To make the day smooth and safe, key roads are closed to motorised traffic, with diversions in place for drivers. At Nile Avenue, traffic is diverted at Statistics House.
Several roads including Kampala Road and Shimoni Road, Ternan Avenue, Kampala Road and Speke Road, Buganda Road and Kyaggwe Road and City Square have seen vehicles restricted from using them with roads including Yusuf Lule Road, Parliament Avenue and Kampala Road given as alternative routes.
KCCA urged everyone to embrace the fun, join the movement, and explore the city differently.
“Let’s work together to make our city more liveable,” the authority said.
From cycling and jogging to street performances and community activities, today is Kampala’s chance to breathe, move, and celebrate the city we love.
