The Omukama of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV has called on all subjects to actively participate in the newly launched malaria immunization program by ensuring that children in the required age bracket are vaccinated.
Speaking during the official launch of the program held on Wednesday in Fort Portal City, Oyo emphasized the importance of public involvement in the fight against malaria, one of the region’s leading health challenges.
“I urge the general public to participate in the malaria immunization program by allowing their children who are in the required age bracket to be immunized,” said Omukama Oyo.
He commended government officials and stakeholders who attended the launch, stressing the need for continued mobilization.
“A healthy person is a hardworking person,” he added.
The event was graced by the President’s Representative for Fort Portal City, Mr. Stanley Bayole (also known as Ddada Busoga), who echoed the King’s message by urging health personnel to work hand in hand with community members.
“I urge the health personnels to coordinate with the community members in this cause,” he said.
Mr. Stanley also expressed appreciation to cultural and religious leaders for their dedication to the welfare of the people, and issued a stern warning to those who might try to disrupt the program.
“Those who will disturb the immunization system should obey and comply with the health program of malaria immunization in their communities,” he warned.
Adding her voice to the call, State Minister for Primary Health Care Hon. Margaret Muhanga assured the public of the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines being administered.
“The vaccines are approved therefore, they should allow their children to be immunized hence malaria-free communities,” she affirmed.
The Minister also extended her gratitude to the RCC, His Royal Highness Omukama of Tooro, as well as cultural and religious leaders for the unity and goodwill demonstrated during the launch.
The malaria immunization campaign is expected to cover Fort Portal City and surrounding areas, with authorities optimistic that strong community participation, spurred by the King’s appeal, will lead to healthier, malaria-free communities in Tooro Kingdom.
