New faces have been elected to represent the UPDF in the 12th parliament.
During the election held at the Land Forces headquarters in Bombo, Gen Okiding, Maj Gen James Kinalwa from the Joint Staff Human Resource Management, Brig Joseph Ssemwanga, Brig David Gonyi, the chief of staff Air Force, Colonel Sylvia Meeme, the brigade operations and training officer for the Military Police and Col Night Ikiriza were voted as new faces to represent the army.
These replaced Gen David Muhoozi, Gen Katumba Wamala, Gen Wilson Mbadi, Gen(rtd) Peter Elwelu, , Brig Charity Bainababo, and Lt Col Dr.Jeniffer Alanyo who didn’t return.
However, Lt Gen James Mugira, the managing director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) , the business arm of the UPDF, Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, Maj Gen Henry Matsiko, the Chief Political Commissar of the UPDF and Col Victor Nekesa bounced back as army MPs in the 12th parliament during an exercise presided over by President Museveni as the commander in chief of the UPDF.
The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba also attended the function at Bombo.
The UPDF is reserved 10 seats in Parliament and these MPs are listening posts for the army.
