The Masaka Catholic Diocese is mourning the death of senior priest Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Kalyesubula, who died in a road accident on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Fr. Kalyesubula was involved in the fatal crash just a few metres from Kitaasa Parish in Bukomansimbi District, where he had been residing.
His death was announced by the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Severus Jjumba, through a statement issued by the Diocesan Vice Chancellor, Charles Jjuuko.
“Bishop Jjumba regrets to announce the tragic passing of Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Kalyesubula, who died in a motor accident on 17th June 2026,” the statement read.
Fr. Kalyesubula had been serving as Chairperson of the Diocesan Building Committee and was residing at Kitaasa Parish at the time of his death.
According to Southern Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye, the fatal crash occurred along the Villa Maria–Bukomansimbi–Sembabule Road, where the priest died on the spot.
The Diocese announced that his burial will take place today, Friday, June 19, 2026, at Bukalasa Minor Seminary Cemetery. The funeral Mass is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
The death of Fr. Kalyesubula has left the Catholic community in Masaka and beyond mourning a priest remembered for his dedicated service to the Church and his contribution to diocesan development projects.
