MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has announced the launch of SuperSport Swahili, a 24-hour sports channel broadcasting in Kiswahili for fans in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
The new channel went live on Thursday, November 5, 2026, on DStv channel 216.
SuperSport Swahili is the flagship sports addition to DStv’s new packages under its Expect More campaign, which was launched simultaneously in all three markets.
The channel will bring selected live Premier League matches to East African audiences, with Kiswahili commentary.
In Uganda, SuperSport Swahili is available to DStv subscribers on the Sports and Ultimate packages. GOtv customers can access it on channel 370 through the Sports package. The channel is also available on the DStv App.
SuperSport has previously provided Kiswahili commentary for some of football’s biggest events, including the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The new channel takes this offering further by introducing a dedicated Kiswahili service featuring its own presenters, studio shows and weekly programmes.
At the launch, the channel’s programming includes selected live matches from the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, as well as fixtures from LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
The live sports offering will also include selected FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches, international football, including AFCON qualifiers, Diamond League athletics and marathons.
The selection of matches will vary each week, drawing from SuperSport’s portfolio of sporting properties and competitions.
The channel will also feature live studio presentations during selected matches.
Beyond live football, viewers can expect WWE Raw, SmackDown and UFC programming, with Kiswahili commentary or voice-overs for delayed broadcasts. Other offerings include Premier League Stories and The Big Interview, dubbed into Kiswahili, alongside highlights and repeat broadcasts.
The channel’s launch team features presenters Ahmed Abdallah, Geoffrey Lea and George Embangile.
The commentary team comprises Ibrahim Masoud, Ansibert Mwombeki, Wilson Upete, Edgar Kibwana, Jemedari Kazumari and Aboubakar Liongo.
Rendani Ramovha, CANAL+ Senior Vice-President of Sport Content for English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, said localisation remains central to the company’s content strategy.
“Localisation is a key part of our content strategy, bringing the sport that matters most to people in Africa, in a language that resonates with them. SuperSport Swahili isn’t merely about offering sport in a local East African language; we’ve done that for years. It’s about bringing the cultural feel and building an authentic affinity between us and our viewers,” Ramovha said.
He added that the channel would give fans in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda an opportunity to enjoy major sporting events in a language that reflects their shared sporting culture.
“African football is about the full experience. It’s about the rivalries, the clash of giants and the spectacular vibe, and now our subscribers in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda will get to live it in Kiswahili. With CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027 coming up, where Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are co-hosts, the continent has never been better placed to tell its story in our own languages,” he said.
SuperSport Swahili presenter Ahmed Abdallah said the channel would give Kiswahili-speaking football fans a dedicated platform for following the sport.
“Kiswahili is the language of the football conversation in East Africa. Now we have a channel that gives that passion a home of its own, with live matches, studio shows and voices that fans know. We can’t wait to welcome everyone on Thursday for the first kick-off,” Abdallah said.
The channel launched on Thursday, November 5, with UEFA Europa League action featuring Crystal Palace against Hoffenheim at 8:45 pm East African Time (EAT).
The opening weekend’s live schedule includes Arsenal versus Hull City on Saturday, November 7, at 6:00 pm EAT, followed by the LaLiga clash between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona on Sunday, November 8, at 11:00 pm EAT.
AFCON qualifiers featuring Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya are scheduled to follow from Friday, November 13. All fixtures are subject to change.
SuperSport also plans to introduce a weekly Kiswahili magazine programme, Saa Ya Michezo (The Sports Hour), in early 2027.
The planned additions will include regional documentaries and a dedicated SuperSport Swahili news section online, further expanding the channel’s coverage of sports and sporting stories across East Africa.
