President Museveni is set to resume his nationwide tours assessing the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), beginning a three-day working visit to the Rwenzori sub-region today, Monday, May 12.
The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku, confirmed the President’s visit and urged residents of Kasese to turn out in large numbers to welcome him.
This latest leg of the tour comes after similar engagements in various sub-regions, including Acholi, Lango, Busoga, Bukedi, and Teso, as the President continues to evaluate the impact and progress of PDM the government’s flagship strategy to eradicate poverty by empowering communities at the parish level.
Throughout these regional tours, Museveni has consistently positioned the PDM as a powerful tool for transforming Uganda’s economic landscape.
He has encouraged citizens to embrace income-generating activities, particularly in agriculture, as a pathway out of poverty.
The President has also warned against borrowing from commercial banks and moneylenders, calling such practices “toxic” to the financial stability of struggling households. Instead, he urges Ugandans to take full advantage of government programs like the PDM that offer affordable financing and support at the grassroots.
During his Rwenzori visit, Museveni is expected to engage directly with local leaders, farmers’ cooperatives, and youth groups.
These interactions aim to assess on-the-ground realities, highlight success stories, and identify any obstacles hindering the program’s full implementation.
According to State Minister Kabbyanga, this visit underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that PDM delivers on its promise to shift communities from subsistence living to sustainable participation in the money economy.
