The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Nateete-Nakawuka Road to allow construction works aimed at improving drainage and the condition of the road.
According to ministry, the closure will take effect on Friday May 15, 2026, and is expected to last for approximately three months.
The affected section is between Mutundwe Road junction and Old Masaka Road junction around Nateete.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Bageya Waiswa, said the temporary closure is necessary to allow the construction of drainage culverts under the ongoing road upgrade project.
“The works are intended to improve drainage, reduce flooding, and enhance road durability,” Bageya said in the ministry statement.
He explained that the project is aimed at solving persistent flooding challenges along the road and improving transport for motorists and residents once the works are completed.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes during the construction period. These include Old Masaka Road, Masaka Road, Entebbe Road through Kajansi, as well as the Mutundwe and Wankulukuku connections.
The ministry also urged all road users to follow traffic guidance and directional signage that will be installed around the affected areas to ensure safety and smooth movement during the works.
The Nateete-Nakawuka Road is one of the key routes connecting Kampala to Wakiso District and surrounding areas, serving thousands of motorists daily.
For a long time, residents and motorists have been decrying the poor state of that section of the road, especially during the rainy season when flooding disrupts traffic movement.
