The National Resistance Network (NRN), an NRM-leaning youth group, has welcomed the guidance issued by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, regarding the ongoing process to determine the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Speaker of Parliament.
In a press statement released on Friday, the revolutionary pressure group said it fully supports the direction communicated by Gen. Muhoozi and pledged to back the candidate endorsed through the party structures.
“The Revolutionary Network (NRN) welcomes the communication from our beloved Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, regarding the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Speakership candidature amid the ongoing internal party processes,” the statement reads in part.
NRN said it has consistently maintained that leadership selection within the ruling party should be based on “integrity, discipline, service record, and an uncompromising stance against corruption.”
The group stressed that its position is not driven by political convenience, but rather reflects its long-held ideological beliefs.
“In that regard, NRN expresses full political support for the direction communicated by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and commits to backing the candidate aligned with this endorsement, as the party moves toward formal ratification through the Central Executive Committee (CEC),” the statement added.
The network also recognised the Central Executive Committee as the legitimate organ mandated to make the final decision on the Speakership race.
At the same time, NRN used the statement to renew its call for a tougher crackdown on corruption within public institutions, saying the anti-corruption fight should spare no one, regardless of rank or political influence.
“NRN also takes this moment to strongly reaffirm its ideological commitment: the fight against corruption within public institutions must be total, fearless, and continuous,” the group stated.
“It must not spare anyone based on rank, political convenience, or internal protection networks.”
The group further challenged NRM leaders to ensure that commitments to accountability are backed by concrete action against abuse of office, mismanagement, and misuse of public resources.
“As a revolutionary accountability network, NRN stands firm in support of integrity-driven leadership choices, opposes corruption in all its forms without exception, and backs any direction that strengthens discipline within public office,” the statement noted.
