A section of leaders in Greater Masaka Sub Region on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket have expressed fear over the competence levels of the party vetting committee, currently Bwaala Social Centre, Masaka City to produce candidates with people’s support.
The committee started working under panic due to limited time since the Electoral Commission brought closer the nomination dates of local government candidates.
Bwanika Deogratius, the Kibinge Sub County Chairperson and NUP aspirant for the same position, has accused the party vetting committee of giving tickets to incompetent candidates speaking good English with no support in their electoral areas.
He added that the committee is on a rush program having only covered Kampala Metropolitan Area in a long period of time since it was established, yet the results were also not announced.
Bwanika reiterated that many NUP aspirants for local government positions in Greater Masaka are either NRM accomplices, and others lack support on the ground.
