The Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Parliament, Chris Obore, and six other Parliament officials have been further remanded to Luzira Prison until July 27, 2026, as investigations into an alleged Shs37 billion corruption scandal continue.
The officials appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday, where prosecutors informed court that investigations were at an advanced stage but requested additional time to complete the process before the case proceeds.
The seven officials are facing charges including embezzlement, money laundering, abuse of office, and causing financial loss to the government. They denied all charges when they first appeared in court last week.
According to the prosecution, Obore is accused of embezzling Shs5.253 billion, while Daniel Adilo, the Director of Human Resource, is alleged to have been involved in the misappropriation of Shs14.609 billion.
Other accused officials include Leonard Okema, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker, who is accused of causing a loss of Shs3.489 billion; Emmanuel Emuron Okwi, Principal Protocol Officer, Shs1.105 billion; Vincent Otebata, Capacity Development Officer, Shs5.253 billion; and Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer, Shs2.170 billion.
The accused officials were arrested last week by the Inspectorate of Government as part of investigations into alleged corruption involving public officials, particularly within Parliament.
Prosecutors allege that the accused persons, together with other individuals who are still at large, caused financial loss to the government amounting to more than Shs37 billion through fraudulent transactions.
The Anti-Corruption Court adjourned the matter to July 27, 2026, when the accused are expected to return to court as investigations continue.
