The Special Forces Command has celebrated its recent performance during the CDF inter-forces drills finals.

During the finals held at Kololo independence grounds, SFC emerged the first runners up overall but also the best overall in the category of creative drills.

On Saturday, the team that participated in the drills officially presented their trophy to the SFC commander, Maj. Gen. David Mugisha and the SFC Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Paul Namawa.

Speaking during a function held at the Uaminifu officers’ mess, Maj Gen Mugisha hailed President Museveni who is also the commander in chief for the “strategic guidance and vision” that he said has led to professionalization of the UPDF.

“This is the cornerstone of all that we have achieved and continue to achieve as a modern, disciplined, pro-people force. His guidance remains a compass and his vision remains our endearing mission,” Maj Gen Mugisha said.

Maj Dennis Masambu who led the team officially hands over the trophy to SFC commander, Maj Gen David Mugisha.

The SFC commander also applauded the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for having come up with the initiative of the CDF inter-forces drills.

“This historical event has not only elevated the standards of military ceremony and discipline, but has also reinforced the enduring values of cohesion, precision and team spirit that drill instills in any professional army,” Gen Mugisha said.

He said it is through such occasions that the UPDF sharpens its edge and deepen cooperation with the citizens.

Importance of drill

The SFC commander underscored the importance of such drills for any professional army.

“Drill is the embodiment of order, discipline and responsiveness to command. It is a mirror of cohesion that binds a unit and symbol of corrective spirit that drives the UPDF,” he said.

He saluted Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for conceptualizing the competition.

SFC Commander, Maj Gen David Mugisha marches with the trophy.

The SFC commander also hailed the team for the stellar performance during the inter-forces drills but noted this is just the beginning, urging the troops to aim higher.

“Let us carry forward the spirit of competition, not only in drill but in every aspect of our military honour. May the unity of our forces remain unbreakable with unwavering discipline and unshakeable resolve. The future belongs to those who prepare and are organized.”

The SFC team marches with the trophy.

The SFC Chief of staff, Brig Paul Namawa hailed the troops for the stellar performance that he said raised the flag high .

“We recognize SFC is a young service but we are moving very fast. This  cant happen without effort of commitment and contribution of all members. I thank  all for your contribution and effort to make SFC what it is. We proved to the world SFC is not about what you hear but a disciplined and dedicated force,” Brig Namawa said.

Maj Dennis Masambu who led the SFC team during the drills said it comprised 54 representatives with officers and other ranks from various units and directorates.

He said the team also included four female militants.

“I thank the unit commanders for sending us disciplined personnel who were willing and ready to learn. We thank our leadership for allowing us participate but also providing us logistics. These items motivated us and enabled us to compete favourably.  To my fellow participants, I cant thank you enough but ask you to keep the spirit and discipline exhibited during the period. Be our ambassadors and let SFC flag fly high always,” Maj Masambu said.

The Saturday function ended with a sumptuous meal.
