Opposition strongman and four time presidential candidate,  Dr.Kizza Besigye has trashed claims of being involved in an accident by Moses Ssimbwa, an activist who was paraded before President Museveni last week.

Paraded during the NRM liberation day in Jinja on Friday, Ssimbwa said he was used by the opposition to claim he had been tortured by Ugandan security forces .

“Politicians took me to Nairobi and instructed me to claim that I was tortured by the Ugandan government. I apologize for everything that transpired. They exploited us because we were in dire need of money,” he said in front of President Museveni.

Ssimbwa clarified that his injuries were actually a result of an accident and not the alleged torture he had previously claimed.

He said that after being in hiding for the past three years, he reached out to Milly Babalanda, the Minister for Presidency, seeking assistance due to deteriorating health conditions resulting from the accident.

However, responding to Ssimbwa’s claims, Dr.Besigye insisted that the former opposition activist had been tortured.

“I know for sure that Moses Simbwa has gone thru one of the most traumatic experiences! I can confirm without any fear of contradiction that Simbwa was an FDC activist in Jinja and he has paid a huge cost with his life mainly because of that,” Besigye posted on his social media platforms.

The revelations by Ssimbwa attracted mixed reactions , especially on social media, with Leader of Opposition, describing the said confession as being illogical.

President Museveni who listed to Ssimbwa’s confession said he was aware of “these games” by the opposition.

“We are fully aware of this deceitful opposition group, and we will expose their true intentions at the appropriate time,” Museveni said on Friday.

Besigye insists

However, the opposition strongman says the claims that Ssimbwa was involved in an accident are not correct since he is personally known to him during his days as an FDC activists.

“If he had a “normal “road traffic accident, why wasn’t he treated for years? It was after his appearance in the human rights abuse exhibition that he was approached, taken to Bombo Military Hospital, the beginning of his journey to the confession you’re shamelessly singing about!”

Besigye said he personally coughed over shs15 million towards medical bills for Ssimbwa at a private medical facility that “ helped along the way of his struggle to recover his health.”

“ I am glad that the NRM/M7 Junta has now been forced to provide some care for him and I wish him well.”
