Police in Entebbe have arrested three men accused of posing as police officers and using suspected forged security identification documents to target foreign nationals.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after allegedly entering an apartment in Division A, Entebbe Municipality, where they reportedly confronted a foreign investor and demanded his passport and an unspecified amount of money.
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the suspects were dressed in civilian clothes but claimed to be police officers carrying out official duties.
Police said the suspects were questioning the investor when a member of staff at the apartment alerted officers from the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit, who responded and arrested them at the scene.
“During a search, the suspects were found in possession of two suspected forged police warrant cards,” Rusoke said in a statement.
The suspects have been identified as John Pius Osire, Pius Girengero and Julius Emogu. They are being held at Entebbe Police Station as investigations continue.
Rusoke said preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to at least two similar incidents involving foreign nationals in the Entebbe area.
“Two weeks ago, the group is suspected to have robbed tourists in Manyago, while one week ago, they allegedly robbed Indian nationals in Kitooro,” he said.
Police allege that the suspects specifically targeted foreign nationals in areas frequented by tourists, using suspected forged security identification documents to impersonate officers on official duty.
The suspects allegedly used the documents to gain the confidence of their victims before robbing them or attempting to extort money.
Police commended the apartment staff member for alerting security officers, saying the prompt response by the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit prevented the suspects from causing further harm.
Rusoke said the suspects will be processed in accordance with the law as investigations into their alleged activities continue.
