Police in Kagadi District have arrested two sons of a 95-year-old woman in connection with the suspected murder of their mother, whose body was found in a sugarcane plantation with her head missing.
The suspects, identified as Peter Biija and Isingoma, are sons of the deceased, Angela Kabagenzi, a resident of Matuntu A Village in Kagadi District.
According to police, Kabagenzi went missing from her home on the night of September 4, 2026.
Her body was discovered the following morning, about 300 metres from her home, in a sugarcane plantation. Police said the body had been found without the head.
Police were alerted and responded to the scene with a sniffer dog to establish what had happened.
“Police were notified and promptly responded to the scene of crime with a sniffer dog. Upon arrival, investigators established the possible exit route through the thick sugarcane plantation,” police said in a statement.
The sniffer dog, No. T/P 240 Marshal, was then introduced to the scene and picked up a scent before tracking a trail to the home of Biija.
The dog subsequently proceeded to the home of Isingoma, another son of the deceased, leading to the arrest of the two men.
“The two suspects were arrested to assist with investigations,” police said.
During the operation, police said Isingoma led officers and community members to a location where the deceased’s missing head had allegedly been buried.
Police said the head was recovered from the location.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding Kabagenzi’s death and the alleged involvement of her sons.
Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the suspected murder.
