Police in Nagalama have successfully intercepted a group of suspected cattle thieves, recovering three heads of cattle in an early morning chase that ended dramatically at Nakasajja Trading Centre.
The incident unfolded around 3:00 AM when officers on routine patrol at Kalagi Trading Centre along Gayaza Road spotted a white Toyota Prado TX, registration number UAZ 797G, moving suspiciously.
When signaled to stop, the vehicle reportedly sped off, triggering a high-speed pursuit.
The chase came to a halt in Nakasajja Trading Centre, where the police managed to intercept the vehicle.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, two of the occupants attempted to flee the scene on foot, while two others sustained injuries during the pursuit and were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
“The officers acted swiftly and professionally. Their vigilance led to the successful recovery of three heads of cattle, which we believe had been stolen,” said ASP Owoyesigyire. “This is part of an ongoing effort to curb the rising cases of cattle theft in the region.”
The deceased suspects remain unidentified, and their bodies are currently at the City Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police say efforts are underway to trace the origins of the recovered livestock and identify the suspects who managed to escape.
“We commend the officers of Nagalama Police Station for their commitment to public safety,” ASP Owoyesigyire added. “The vehicle used in the incident is suspected to have been transporting stolen cattle to market.”
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities promise to release more information as it becomes available.
