The brother to journalist Mark Agaba also known as Uncle Mark recently told a meeting with the Special Forces Command that the convoy incident happened four years ago in 2021.
Uncle Mark said earlier this week said his brother was brutalized by President Museveni’s convoy.
He said in the post that his brother jumped off a motorcycle to cross to the other side of the road but was intercepted and severely beaten by SFC personnel as President Museveni’s convoy passed through town.
He added that his brother disappeared for two days and returned with missing toenails.
SFC early this week invited Agaba, his brother and wife to ascertain circumstances under which the said incident happened.
Agaba would later delete the post on his social media platforms but also noted that “we have reached an agreement.”
However, in a statement on Thursday, SFC said during the meeting with the victims, they were informed by Agaba’s group that the incident happened in 2021.
“During the discussions, they said the alleged incident happened four years ago in December 2021 if at all it happened. They also said that the alleged suspects were plain clothed,” SFC spokesperson, Maj Jimmy Omara said.
According to SFC, during the meeting, Uncle Mark’s group said the victim was arrested from around the clock tower area in Kampala and taken to the Old Taxi Park Police Post.
Maj Omara said SFC has taken note of this new information that he said they will not take lightly, noting that investigations will help ascertain the truth behind the same.
“As they said, the claim in itself is not recent as being alleged, then why did it take them four years of inaction from December, 2021 to the May, 18, 2025,” Maj Omara questioned.
He said by 2021, SFC had not started deploying its troops along the said road as is being alleged.
“ Our greatest concern is, why is the issue being raised now and not in 2021? The investigation will help us know who exactly were those alleged plain clothed armed individuals and why non of the said police posts have any details about the case.”
He said the SFC commander has sanctioned a formal investigation into the matter, and, that “whoever is found culpable to have committed the vice or supplied false information (SFC troops or Agaba) will be held responsible and accountable.”
“The law will take its course. Above all, we would also like to establish the motive behind the unfounded allegation in the shortest time possible .”
