The state minister for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye has told journalists to amplify the achievements of the current NRM government, whether they like or hate it.
“Please, I want to see all these good stories appearing in the New Vision, Daily Monitor and all new outlets. I want you to show the achievements of NRM. Whether you hate it(NRM) , show the people what we are doing,” Kyofatogabye said.
“Don’t waste your time on UPDF Act. Are you military personnel? Leave soldiers to suffer with their thing since the act was made for them not you. If you want to taste it, go to Bombo and join the army. We say we must maintain discipline here and you complain! Why are you complaining? Just tell the people purpose of the bill is this and that is done.”
Kyofatogabye was speaking during the closure of a two-day workshop for communicators about the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP).
The program is financed through a $566 million (Shs2.1 trillion) from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group will work on roads, markets, drainage and other amenities in a bid to give a facelift to Kampala City, Entebbe, Kira, Makindye-Ssabagabo, Mukono and Nansana municipalities as well as Mukono, Mpigi and Wakiso district local governments.
He said the public doesn’t have so much interest in the UPDF Bill but rather other developmental issues that he said the media should report about.
He urged communication persons to make the public know what government is doing, especially on the GKMA-UDP .
“Capture these roads and show the current development and the previous one so that people can know where we have come from and where we are. I want you to promote the good work we are doing on these projects that link these areas.”
“Don’t hide the fact that NRM has come up to construct 331km of roads in Greater Kampala. Whether you like NRM or not, don’t hide that fact. Just speak about it. The other person will know what his or her government has done and the rest wait for yours( government) in 2080 so you can also praise it. Blow our trumpet now so that when we change the tune in 2080, we shall also blow yours. Now that we are the people around move with us.”
