Police in Nansana have arrested a woman and her daughter over the gruesome murder of a 50-year-old South Sudanese national, James Wani, whose charred body was discovered after days of his unexplained disappearance.
The arrests followed an intensive investigation sparked by concern from residents of Katooke, Kisimu, where Wani had lived with his wife and stepdaughter.
Community members grew suspicious after he was last seen alive and his whereabouts remained unknown.
Initially, the wife claimed Wani had been admitted to Mulago Hospital, but her story quickly unraveled under police scrutiny.
“Upon inquiry, the daughter revealed that her stepfather had been murdered by her mother and his body was set ablaze,” said SSP Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson.
Following this revelation, police recovered Wani’s burnt remains, which have since been taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination.
“We have opened a murder case file and both the mother and daughter are in our custody for further interrogation. Preliminary findings indicate there may have been a history of domestic violence in the home,” SSP Onyango added.
