Police in Nateete have arrested a 34-year-old woman accused of burning her 10-year-old nephew’s hands with a polythen bag.

The suspect, identified as Esther Nankunda, a resident of Kanaala Zone in Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division, was taken into custody following the incident that occurred on Eid Day, March 20, 2026.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, the suspect had been entrusted with the care of the Primary Four pupil by her brother.

“It is alleged that on Eid Day at around 5:00pm, the suspect burnt the victim’s hands using a heated white polythene bag, accusing him of stealing money amounting to Shs100,000,” Kawala said.

Police say the boy was later rescued and taken for medical examination.

Kawala condemned the act, emphasizing that child abuse and torture are serious crimes punishable by law.

“We strongly condemn acts of child abuse and torture,” she said.

The suspect remains in police custody at Nateete as she awaits to be arraigned in court.
