At least 12 people have been confirmed dead following an accident involving a taxi and a trailer together with a boda boda along the Jinja -Malaba highway.
The Sunday night accident saw a Toyota Hiace taxi registration number UBQ 772A from Kampala to Tororo collide head-on with a trailer carrying a container, registration number KBM 175S, which was traveling from Malaba to Kampala.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by a motorcycle that tried to overtake the trailer and under unclear circumstances the trailer and the taxi crashed into each other.
11 people including two who were travelling on the motorcycle died on the spot while another died while being rushed to hospital.
