The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has declared that the Kingdom will only support political candidates who align with and prioritize Buganda’s five major points(Ensonga Ssemasonga).
Speaking to subjects from Kyadondo and Ssingo counties, students from various schools, politician and a group of journalists at the Meng palace on Tuesday, Mayiga emphasized the importance of unity and shared values in determining political support.
“We shall support only those who move with us. We shall support those who support us,” the Katikkiro stated emphatically.
He urged the people of Buganda to question every political aspirant seeking their vote, asking whether they are familiar with and committed to the Kingdom’s main points.
“If someone comes asking for your vote, ask them whether they know the five main points of Buganda. If they do, then ask whether they will stand by them,” he said.
Mayiga further emphasized that candidates who support the Kingdom’s agenda deserve to be heard and given consideration.
“Anyone who supports the Kabaka’s agenda should be heard,” he added.
Addressing the youth, the Katikkiro cautioned against voting in exchange for money. Instead, he encouraged them to back candidates with clear, transformative plans that genuinely empower young people.
“Those willing to support the youth must be heard, not by handing out money, but by empowering you,” he said.
He also reminded the audience of the various youth programs initiated by the Kabaka and encouraged them to take full advantage of these opportunities.
