Buikwe South Member of Parliament, Dr. Lulume Bayiga, has officially crossed from the Democratic Party (DP) to the Katonga-based People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), marking a significant shift in Uganda’s opposition politics.

The PFF on Monday warmly received Dr. Bayiga following his departure from the DP, a move attributed to long-standing disagreements with DP President General and Justice Minister, Norbert Mao.

Dr. Bayiga recently contested for the DP presidency but lost to Mao, who has led the party since 2010.

“The struggle for democracy and freedom rages on. Today, we welcome Hon. Dr. Lulume Bayiga to the People’s Front for Freedom, a testament to the growing momentum for change. Aluta Continua,” PFF President Erias Lukwago posted on his X page.

In his maiden address as a PFF member, Dr. Bayiga pledged unwavering commitment to the party’s cause, declaring that he had joined the struggle with vigor.

“I thank you for the warm welcome you’ve given to me. I don’t come here with a lot of humility—I’m not a humble man. I come here as a fighter, to fight alongside you and win the war,” he said.

Dr. Bayiga now joins a growing list of DP members who, over the past seven years, have abandoned the party in search of what they view as more focused and stable opposition platforms.
