The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has announced a series of major electricity infrastructure upgrades across the country, aimed at improving service delivery and driving socio-economic development in communities.
Speaking on 88.8 CBS FM on Friday, Jonan Kiiza, Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL, said the company has connected over 156,000 customers, replaced 256 transformers, and installed more than 130 new transformers nationwide.
“We have connected over 156,000 customers, replaced 256 transformers, injected over 130 new transformers across the country and more,” Kiiza said.
He also highlighted upgrades to key substations, including Kakiri, Masaka, and Kabale, and confirmed that UEDCL has secured land for three new substations in Magigye, Kawempe, and Nakasero.
“These developments are set to drive significant socio-economic transformation in these areas and their surrounding communities,” Kiiza added.
Kiiza further urged consumers who have not yet regularized their electricity connections to do so through the famous WETEREZeeee campaign before the 31st of December 2025 to avoid penalties or prosecution.
“We still call upon all those who have not yet normalized their electricity connection to kindly visit; uedcl.co.ug/weterezeeee/ to normalize their electricity connection by 31st December 2025 to avoid penalties or prosecution,” he said.
The upgrades come as part of UEDCL’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the electricity distribution network and ensure reliable power supply across Uganda.
