The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has announced that the 2026 Uganda Film Festival (UFF) has been postponed due to health concerns over Ebola.
In a statement, UCC said the decision follows guidance from the National Taskforce on Ebola Response and the Ministry of Health. “The postponement affects all festival activities, including film screenings and the Uganda Film Festival Awards Gala that had been scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026,” the commission stated.
UCC explained that the Ministry of Health issued a circular on May 26, 2026, restricting mass gatherings within the Kampala Metropolitan Area as part of national efforts to contain the spread of Ebola and protect public health.
“While we recognise the disappointment this may cause to filmmakers, nominees, sponsors, exhibitors, and festival audiences, the health and safety of the public remains our highest priority,” UCC added. The commission said the postponement is a precautionary measure to support national response efforts and safeguard communities.
New dates for the festival activities will be announced once it is safe to proceed, UCC said. The public is advised to follow health guidance and updates on the commission’s official communication platforms.
The Uganda Film Festival Awards, also known as the UFF Awards, are held annually to honour excellence in Uganda’s film industry. The festival, which began in 2013, includes film screenings, training sessions, workshops, exhibitions, and outreach programs.
