The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has announced a planned power shutdown affecting customers served by the Kampala South Substation today.
The outage is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, running from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., according to the company.
UEDCL says the interruption will enable its technical team to install a new transformer, a development expected to increase the substation’s capacity and improve the reliability of electricity supply in the affected areas.
Impacted locations include Namasuba, Zana, Lubowa, Sseguku, Kigo, Kajjansi, Kitende, Kigala, Kankwale, Ssekiwunga, Akright City, Bwebajja, Najjanakumbi, Makindye, Kizungu, Lukuli, Kibuye, Nyanama, Kabowa, Simbwe, Wankulukuku, Kifampa, Kiyumba, Kiruddu, Nsombabyuma, Luwafu, Bukejje, Nakinyuguzi, Kyamula, Salaama, Lwasa, Nsambu, Lunya, Kanaba, Ziranumbu, Kibira, Buggu, Busabala, Gangu, Kabuma, Masajja, and Katwe.
Jonan Kiiza, Head of Corporate & Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL, urged customers to take precautions during the outage.
“All affected customers are advised to switch off their electrical appliances until power supply is fully restored. Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” he said.
The company reassured the public that the upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to enhance power reliability across the Kampala South network.
