Police in Lamwo District have arrested two suspects believed to be part of an organised motorcycle theft syndicate operating in Lira and Gulu.
The arrests stem from a robbery that occurred on February 18, 2026, in the Railway Area of Lira City, where a boda boda rider, Moses Okello, was attacked with a hammer and his motorcycle, registration number UGH 245H, stolen.
Following intelligence leads, officers mounted a checkpoint at Apyeta Bridge in Lamwo District. It was there that they arrested Robert Kilama, 27, a resident of Lwaya Village in Ogili Sub-County, together with Gerald Oweka.
The suspects were found in possession of a red Bajaj motorcycle without a number plate.
Police reveal that a search conducted at Oweka’s home led to the recovery of another motorcycle, related documents, and several suspected stolen number plates.
The number plates recovered include UGF 193J, UGH 918M, UMA 367BC, UFS 918F, UGA 101H, and UGA 069H.
The suspects are currently detained as investigations continue. Police have called on members of the public who have lost motorcycles to visit the nearest Police station to verify and identify the recovered items.
