Police in Kampala have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a police officer and being linked to a bag-snatching incident earlier this year.
The suspect has been identified as Hassan Kuteeka, a resident of Musibula Zone in Rubaga Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, Hassan was found in possession of a fake identification card bearing the logo of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
“The suspect was found with an identification card (No. CID 006) bearing a police logo for the Criminal Investigations Department, with his name inscribed on it,” SP Kawala said.
Police say Hassan’s arrest is connected to a bag-snatching incident that occurred in January 2026 at Nateete traffic lights, where a 17-year-old victim was targeted by individuals travelling in a motor vehicle, registration number UAQ 950P, a Golf.
On April 8, 2026, at around 4:00pm, the victim reportedly spotted the same vehicle and alerted the police.
“Officers responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of one suspect. Upon a search, he was found in possession of the said identification card, impersonating a police officer,” Kawala added.
A case of personation has since been registered against the suspect, and police say investigations are ongoing.
