Police in the South Kyoga Region, together with the UPDF, have recovered 105 head of cattle following a night raid by suspected Karamojong warriors in Bukedea District.

According to police, the attack happened on April 13, 2026, at about 11:00pm, when a group of about eight armed men raided kraals in Kibimba Village, Amujaje Parish, Kamutur Sub-county.

“On 13th April 2026 at about 2300 hours, a group of approximately eight armed suspects, reportedly carrying guns, bows, and arrows, raided the kraal of Paul Mwanga… and stole 27 head of cattle,” police said in a statement.

The attackers are said to have assaulted the victim before moving to another home.

“The same group proceeded to the kraal of Henry Saale… where they stole an additional 78 head of cattle, bringing the total number of stolen animals to 105,” police added.

Police said the raid was part of cattle rustling activities commonly carried out by suspected Karamojong warriors in the region.

Security forces responded immediately after receiving the report and pursued the suspects.

“Upon receiving the report, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, supported by UPDF and territorial police personnel… responded promptly and pursued the suspects,” police said.

The joint team caught up with the raiders, leading to an exchange of fire.

“Their swift intervention led to a fierce exchange of fire, which forced the raiders to abandon the stolen livestock,” the statement reads.

All the stolen cattle were recovered and returned to the owners. No deaths were recorded during the operation, and police say efforts to track down the suspects are ongoing.
