Kalangala Woman Member of Parliament, Hellen Nakimuli has died, this website has learnt.

Whereas details are still scanty, Nakimuli is said to have died at Mulago hospital following a surgery she had undergone recently.

National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi, on Sunday hailed Nakimuli as a devoted party member, describing her death as  “terrible and shocking.”

“Hellen Nakimuli was a devoted leader whose service to her people was marked by courage, humility, and unwavering commitment. Her passing is not only a loss to NUP but to Uganda as a whole,”Kyagulanyi said.

“May God strengthen all of us, and especially those closest to her, as we come to terms with this painful loss,” he said.

Biography

Born in  1985 in Lukuba Village, Kyamuswa Sub-county in Kalangala District to Greek Orthodox priest Christopher Walusimbi and Maria Nalwanga Walusimbi, Nakimuli studied at  Bukasa Primary School and later attended Hormisdallen Primary School in Bweyogerere, Wakiso District.

She later completed her Ordinary Level studies at Our Lady of Good Counsel Secondary School in Gayaza.

Nakimuli attended St. Augustine Secondary School in Wakiso for her Advanced Level education.

In her A-level, she was elected as the school head girl and this marked her beginning in politics.

She would later return to her home district to become a councillor representing Kyamuswa and Bubeke on the district.

In 2021, she was elected to parliament as the Kalangala Woman MP.

She again won in the just concluded 2026 general election when she beat NRM’s Aidah Nabayiga .

In parliament, Nakimuli was also the captain of the women’s volleyball team, played in the national volleyball league but aso represented parliament in netball and basketball.

Back in Kalangala, through the Nakimuli Foundation, she had a number of  projects aimed at empowering women groups and youths that equipped them with income generating skills, giving them a lifeline.
