Security agencies have arrested the proprietor of Keith King Group of Companies, Mugisha Keith King, along with several Nigerian nationals in a major crackdown on an international drug trafficking network operating in Kampala.
The operation, led by the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) in collaboration with other security agencies, followed intelligence linking the group to drug trafficking and document fraud.
DCIC spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi said the network had both local and international connections.
“We have disrupted a sophisticated drug trafficking network operating in Kampala with links across several countries,” Mundeyi said.
Authorities identified Mugisha as the suspected ringleader. He is reported to have a prior conviction in Kenya, where he was arrested in 2010 at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with cocaine from Brazil and later served a 12-year sentence.
Investigations further indicate that Mugisha operated under multiple identities and used passports from different countries while coordinating activities with foreign nationals, particularly Nigerians.
Two Nigerian suspects—Ikemefuna Testimony Udo and Ikemefuna Annointing—are currently in custody, while another suspect, Kemefuna Winner Chekwubechukwu, is on the run and is believed to be in Brazil.
Security searches conducted at Mugisha’s residence and business premises in Kira Municipality led to the recovery of a pistol, live ammunition, multiple passports, forged documents, and military-style gear.
Mundeyi said the suspect had been impersonating military personnel and government officials to evade security checks.
“The suspect has been using military attire, illegal sirens, and forged documents to masquerade as a government official,” he said.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the network.
The Ministry has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or impersonation.
