Police in Arua City have recovered 27 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen following an operation launched after the arrest of a motorcycle theft suspect.
According to the Police spokesperson for West Nile Region, SSP Josephine Angucia, the operation was conducted on Tuesday morning, June 16, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m. by officers attached to Arua Central Business Division.
Angucia said the suspect was arrested in connection with motorcycle theft and later led investigators to Hidmola Hotel, formerly known as Republic Hotel, located along Lemerujua Road in Obolokofuku Cell, Central Ward, Arua City, where a suspected stolen motorcycle had allegedly been hidden.
“Upon recovery of the motorcycle, the suspect further pointed out other motorcycles suspected to have been stolen within the same parking yard,” SSP Angucia said.
She explained that officers found several motorcycles without registration numbers and decided to impound them for verification.
“In total, 27 unregistered motorcycles without registration numbers were recovered and transported to Arua City Central Business Division Police Station, where they are currently parked pending verification and further investigations,” she added.
Police have since opened a General Enquiry File (GEF), while the proprietor and manager of the premises have recorded statements to support ongoing investigations.
SSP Angucia called upon members of the public who may have lost motorcycles to visit Arua CPS and verify ownership.
She added that operations are still ongoing as police continue with inquiries into the suspected motorcycle theft network.
