Kansai Plascon Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development, youth empowerment and community transformation through its sponsorship of the 2026 Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Cup, which officially kicked off at Humura Church of Uganda Playground in Kyaka County, Kyegegwa District.
The opening ceremony attracted Tooro Kingdom officials, local leaders, football fans and communities from across the region, combining cultural celebrations with sporting competition and community engagement.
The tournament opened with the inaugural Tooro Shield Cup, featuring defending champions Kyaka County against Fort Portal City in a repeat of the 2025 final.
After a tightly contested 90 minutes ended goalless, Kyaka County secured victory through a penalty shootout, winning 5–4 to begin their title defence on a positive note.
As one of the tournament’s key sponsors, Kansai Plascon said its partnership is aimed at using football as a platform to identify emerging talent, strengthen community bonds and promote positive social messages across the Tooro Kingdom.
The company said the sponsorship aligns with its broader commitment to supporting initiatives that create opportunities for young people while bringing communities together through sport.
The Tooro Amasaza Cup has grown into one of the region’s most prominent sporting and cultural events. The 2026 edition, which marks the fifth season of the tournament, features nine counties representing different areas of the Tooro Kingdom.
The participating teams include Kyaka, Burahya, Fort Portal City, Mwenge South, Mwenge North, Bunyangabu, Ntoroko, Kibale and Kitagwenda.
Beyond football competition, the tournament will also continue promoting public health awareness, with this year’s edition carrying messages on HIV prevention, testing and responsible health practices, particularly among young people.
Through its sponsorship, Kansai Plascon is supporting a platform that combines sports, culture, health advocacy and community development, while helping the tournament reach audiences across the participating counties.
The opening event also highlighted the role of the Amasaza Cup in promoting unity among the counties and strengthening partnerships between cultural institutions, local leaders and communities.
For Kyaka County, the opening victory provides an early boost as the team seeks to become the first side to successfully defend the championship title since Kansai Plascon and MTN Uganda increased their involvement in the tournament.
Kyaka won the 2025 championship after defeating Fort Portal City 2–0 in the final at Kinyananisika Grounds, with goals from Arafat Baluku and Fred Tumusiime.
The 2026 tournament will continue with matches across the participating counties before the final celebrations in September, held as part of activities marking Empango, the coronation anniversary of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
