President Museveni has extended direct financial support to market vendors in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luweero District, as part of a broader effort to uplift household incomes and spur micro-enterprise development in underserved communities.
State House officials led by the Senior Presidential Advisor on Elderly Affairs, Princess Pauline Nassolo, and the Special Presidential Assistant for Women Affairs, Ms. Flora Kabibi, delivered the President’s “business booster package” to 82 vendors operating in Movit and Bimbo Markets. Each received shs100,000 in cash.
“Let us not be divided by politics. Let’s work together so we can improve our livelihoods,” said Princess Nassolo during the visit.
“The president is aware that many of you missed out on Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM). This support is a bridge to help you grow your businesses as you await other government programs.”
Princess Nassolo urged beneficiaries to reinvest the money into their enterprises and avoid spending it on non-essential items.
She also linked access to government support with political alignment, encouraging the vendors to vote for leaders who prioritize grassroots development.
“Please vote for the right leaders who will ensure you benefit from government services. President Museveni is a visionary leader committed to your socio-economic transformation,” she said.
Ms. Kabibi reiterated that the president, having overseen national infrastructure development, is now focusing on increasing household income across Uganda.
“This support may seem small, but if wisely used, it has the power to make a big difference,” she told the vendors.
“Vote for President Museveni and the NRM government in 2026 for continued progress.”
Hajji Abubaker Kalume, the NRM flag bearer for Katikamu South, praised the president’s gesture, calling it a show of commitment to ordinary Ugandans. He urged vendors to reciprocate by supporting the ruling party in the next election.
Market leaders and traders expressed gratitude for the support.
Ms. Nakidde Robinah, Chairperson of Movit Market, thanked the President for directly empowering vendors.
“We promise to use this additional capital wisely to grow our businesses,” she said.
Ms. Nalumansi Hanifah, an onion vendor, and Ms. Coster Namutebi, a vegetable trader and former bush war fighter, both echoed appreciation for the intervention and pledged to reinvest the money.
“Your Excellency, thank you for always remembering us,” said Ms. Namutebi. “I was part of the liberation struggle, and I am proud to see this continued commitment to ordinary people.”
The cash handout is part of the President’s wider initiative to support informal sector workers who have been left out of formal government funding schemes. It also aligns with his strategy of bolstering household income and enterprise productivity ahead of the 2026 general elections.
