Two people, including the driver and conductor of a commuter taxi, were killed after a Sinotruk truck crashed into their vehicle along the Kampala–Hoima Road in Wakiso District.
The crash, which also left nine passengers injured, occurred at Nkoowe at about 1:33pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
According to Michael Kananura, the Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson, the crash involved four vehicles: a Sinotruk truck, registration number UBK 495F; a Toyota Hiace commuter taxi, UAT 272J; a Subaru Forester, UBB 353D; and a Toyota Wish, UBE 918T.
Kananura said preliminary investigations indicate that the Sinotruk, which was carrying stones from Kakiri towards Kampala, lost control at Nkoowe and rammed into the three other vehicles.
The taxi had reportedly stopped to pick up passengers when it was hit by the truck.
“The Sino truck, which was carrying stones travelling from Kakiri towards Kampala, lost control while at Nkoowe and rammed into the three vehicles, including a commuter taxi that had stopped to load passengers,” Kananura said.
The nine injured passengers comprised five adults and four juveniles.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that caused the truck driver to lose control.
The crash adds to concerns over road safety involving heavy trucks on Ugandan roads, particularly amid recurring public complaints about accidents involving Sinotruk trucks.
Authorities have continued to urge drivers of heavy vehicles to exercise caution, maintain their vehicles properly and observe traffic regulations to reduce crashes and loss of life.
