A 22-year-old waitress hasbeen found dead in her rented room in Bukoto after her relatives raised the alarm when she stopped responding to their calls.
Jovia Namuwulya , who lived in Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division, was discovered dead on August 20, 2026, in circumstances that are not clear.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the suspected killing occurred between midnight and 6am.
Kawala explained that Namuwulya had reportedly lived in the room for about seven months and that about three months after she rented the room, she received Rose Turindamukama , a female visitor who later began staying with her.
The circumstances surrounding Rose’s stay and her whereabouts at the time Namuwulya was killed are now part of the police investigation.
According to Kawala, the deceased’s relatives became worried after failing to reach her on phone.
“The caretaker of the houses received a telephone call from relatives of the deceased inquiring about Jovia, as she was reportedly not responding to their calls,” she said.
The caretaker then went to the room together with Namuwulya’s sister.
The door was locked when they arrived, but what they saw through the window heightened their concern.
“On looking through the window, they observed blood stains inside the room. They subsequently accessed the room and found Jovia lying in a pool of blood, deceased,” she said.
Kawala said Turindamukama was not at the scene when the body was discovered and has since become a person of interest in the investigation.
“Her friend, Turindamukama Rose, was nowhere to be found and is currently being sought in connection with the incident,” Kawala said.
Police have since taken the body to City Mortuary, Mulago, where a post-mortem examination is expected to provide further information about her death.
Kawala said detectives are continuing to gather information and trace the missing woman.
“Other inquiries are ongoing, and efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect are actively being pursued,” she said.
