Police in Kampala have arrested eight suspects in connection with a viral social media video in which a group of individuals are allegedly seen celebrating attacks on members of the public.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the video, which attracted attention on social media, shows about six individuals allegedly boasting about attacking several people and causing serious injuries, including broken jaws and teeth.

According to Kawala, the individuals allegedly went further to demand money from dentists treating victims of the attacks and threatened medical practitioners who failed to comply with their demands.

“We received information concerning a video circulating on social media in which a group of about six individuals are seen praising themselves for carrying out attacks on members of the public. In the video, they allegedly talk about attacking people and breaking their jaws and teeth. They also allegedly demand that dentists share with them money earned from treating the victims, and they threaten medical practitioners who do not comply with their demands,” Kawala said.

Following investigations into the video, police conducted an intelligence-led operation on September 8, 2026, at Gojo Gym in Namungona, Lubya Parish, Rubaga Division, Kampala District.

Eight suspects were arrested during the operation, four of whom police say are allegedly seen in the viral video.

Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly used the gym as a meeting point while presenting themselves as people undergoing boxing training.

“Our preliminary investigations indicate that this gym was being used as a meeting point by some of these individuals, apparently under the guise of training in boxing. However, we are investigating allegations that some of them may be connected to a number of violent criminal activities, including robbery, housebreaking, theft, phone snatching, the use of deadly weapons and unlawful possession of narcotic substances,” she said.

The suspects arrested are Matiti Mohammed, also known as Beast-Commander; Nurudin Kasule, also known as 2 I/C; Umar Mubiru; Lukooya Adams; Kiyimba Martin; Alinda Yosam Junior; Walumu James; and Elvis Simanya.

Police said the last four suspects were found at the gym, with some allegedly found in possession of suspected narcotic substances.

Kawala said the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue and they await court proceedings.

“The suspects are currently in our custody as we continue with the investigations and prepare the necessary files for court. We are also working to establish the identities and roles of the other individuals who appear in the video and to determine whether they were involved in the reported criminal activities,” Kawala said.

She urged members of the public with information about the suspects or possible victims to come forward.

“We appeal to members of the public who may have information concerning these individuals, the reported attacks or possible victims to share that information with police. Such information will assist us in identifying other suspects, locating victims and establishing the circumstances surrounding these incidents,” Kawala said.
