Government of Uganda has called for a peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Middle East, urging all concerned parties to accept Israel as a state and support the rights of Palestinians to have their own state.
In a statement issued Monday, September 21, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda said Uganda does not support wars that it considers unjust.
“Uganda never supports wars that are not just,” the Ministry said.
The government appealed to the different actors involved in the Middle East conflicts to pursue a peaceful resolution and address what it described as longstanding complications surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian question.
“We appeal to all concerned to accept the State of Israel and the rights of the Palestinians to have their own State,” the Ministry said.
According to the Ministry, many of the complications in the region emanate from what it described as the failure by different actors to justly handle the issue.
The government also addressed the question of nuclear energy, stressing that its use for peaceful purposes should be handled in accordance with international law.
“Then, there is the issue of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This should be handled according to international law,” the Ministry said.
On religious divisions in the region, the government cautioned against sectarianism involving different religious groups, including Jews, Christians, Sunni and Shia Muslims.
“Then, there is the issue of sectarianism of religions: Jews, Christians, Sunni, Shia, etc. Our view is that the politics of identity (ethnic, religious) is an ideological and strategic blunder and a poison for any situation,” the Ministry said.
Uganda said identity-based politics had contributed to the destruction of some African countries, citing its own past experience.
- “Some countries in Africa, including Uganda in the past, have been ruined by this poison,” the Ministry said.
