Police have provided more details surrounding the murder of Kisoro prominent businessman Africano Nteziyaremye and his wife Peace Kyompeire.
The couple was gunned down by unknown assailants on Saturday evening at around 11pm as they returned home in Zindiro Cell, Kisoro district while traveling in a Toyota pickup truck.
However, Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said while reports indicated the couple was gunned down inside their vehicle, the victims had managed to flee from the vehicle before being pursued and shot dead by the assailants.
“It is alleged Africano attempted to reverse their pickup, but the narrow road prevented him from turning. The couple then abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, but the assailant shot both dead,” Rusoke said.
He added that the shop attendant was also in the vehicle but was not harmed by the armed assailants.
“The attacker reportedly demanded money from the shop attendant and searched the victims before fleeing,” he said.
According to the police spokesperson, investigations into the murder have commenced, with robbery being considered as a possible motive.
He asked any members of the public with possible clues to the attackers to provide it.
