More than 10 people have been injured after a church building linked to prominent pastor Brother Ronnie Makabai collapsed in Kawuku on Monday evening, trapping workers beneath the rubble.
Rescue operations were ongoing by press time, with more than 10 people reportedly evacuated from the site and rushed to Entebbe Grade B Hospital and Kisubi Hospital for treatment.
ASP Edith Natukunda, the Entebbe Community Liaison Officer, confirmed the incident, saying police had secured the scene as emergency response teams continued efforts to rescue those trapped beneath the debris.
“The church that has been under construction has collapsed, burying people. The scene of crime is under control by Entebbe police officers. The ambulance has taken victims to Entebbe Grade B and some to Kisubi Hospital,” Natukunda said.
She added that one person was in critical condition, while those rescued earlier were reportedly showing signs of improvement.
“One person is in critical condition, but the first people who were evacuated are getting better. Over 10 people have so far been evacuated,” she said.
Police cordoned off the area as rescue teams continued searching for people who might still be trapped beneath the rubble.
The building was reportedly still under construction at the time of the collapse, leaving workers trapped beneath the debris.
The cause of the collapse had not been established by the time of publication.
