A total of 131 MPs have so far signed the motion to censure four commissioners of parliament accused of illegally awarding themselves shs1.7 billion in “service awards”.
The censure motion targets commissioners Esther Afoyochan (NRM), Prossy Akampurira (NRM), Solomon Silwany (NRM) and Mathias Mpuuga (National Unity Platform).
Speaking on Thursday, the movers of the censure motion said they have so far reached 131 signatures with only 46 remaining.
The movers of the censure motion against parliamentary commissioners need at least at least 177 signatures.
Gay money
However, as the movers of the censure motion move to nail the commissioners, there have been claims that they have been bankrolled by homosexuals .
Speaking on Thursday, Sarah Opendi dismissed the claims as being baseless and unfounded.
“I have been informed of how some Members of Parliament have been called and told that I have been given money by the homosexuals and that it is the money I’m using to bankroll this process. I don’t have any money and I don’t have any contact of any homosexual because I don’t know any,” Opendi said.
She insisted that the claims of homosexuality is peddled in one to discourage their efforts to censure the four commissioners but insisted they will not back off.
“If monies were not lost, why are people panicking? I have seen people sending some form of circulars asking members of Parliament not to sign .It is my humble appeal to you that you to either stand on the right side of the law or this Parliament will be doomed.”
Aringa South MP Arion Odria could not agree more.
“Homosexuals are not the one who came to Parliament and stole money. It is the Commissioners of Parliament who stole money from Ugandan taxpayers. We don’t have anything to do with homosexuals.”
