Police have owned up raiding National Unity Platform headquarters in Kavule and Kamwokya as part of their ongoing investigations.
The two party offices were on Friday a hive of activity as joint security agencies cordoned off the premises but also blocked roads around.
Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said in a brief statement that the raid was part of an ongoing investigation into “illegal military training” activities.
“Following reports of unauthorized military drills at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kavule and their premise in Kamwokya in Kampala City, the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has mounted a coordinated security operation,” Rusoke said.
“Our security personnel are currently conducting searches at the mentioned locations. Further updates on the outcomes of this operation will be provided in due course.”
However, the NUP leadership has dismissed the claims as untrue, noting that the raid was politically motivated.
“Security officials are breaking into my office after spending hours checking other offices (and perhaps planting things). They’ve blocked all roads around,” NUP president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine said on X.
“This is evidence that they are panicking and in great fear of the people.”
The development comes a few weeks after the National Unity Platform released photos and videos where Kyagulanyi was inspecting a military-like parade at the party offices as part of his 45th birthday.
Security has since warned that it would take action against all participants in the military-like parade.
UPDF spokesperson, Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye recently warned of stem action against NUP over the activities.
“If a duck begins to fly like a bird, what is that called? If these individuals continue to mimic the army, they might find themselves facing legal consequences,” Kulaigye said.
The developments come at a time as tension begins to build up ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 general election.
