An NBS TV journalist and  a producer have died in a road crash along Entebbe Road.

Producer Badru Kasirye and journalist Isaac Namagye died on the spot  in the wee hours of Friday morning when they were involved in an accident along Entebbe Road.

Another journalist, Brian Ssemanda, alias Makona who was with the duo sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted.

“The two unfortunately lost their lives in the accident while Makona  is in intensive care unit recieving treatment under close watch from his medical team,” Next Media Services, the parent company for NBS TV said in a statement on Friday morning.

The accident according to sources happened as the NBS TV staff returned home after working late at night.

Next Media has asked for privacy for the families of the deceased and for Makona’s family as he continues treatment.

“We ask for privacy for the families, and for Brian and his family, as he continues treatment. Updates will follow as they are confirmed,” the company said.

Kasirye, famously referred to as Badru by peers was widely known for producing popular entertainment programs including After 5, is reported to have died at the scene.

He had just been promoted to a role of the Lead Trade Marketing at Next Media recently replacing Brian Ainebyona who died last year in December.

The two deaths add to others killed on Ugandan roads.

The police annual traffic report for last year indicated that the country registered 26,044 road crashes, indicating a 3.7% increase from the figure registered in 2024.

Of these, 4,602 were fatal, rising from the 4,434 reported in 2024 while 18,444 people got serious injuries and 3,668 got minor injuries.

The report also indicates that  a total of 5,383 people died from these road traffic accidents, averaging about 15 deaths per day

In the accidents, men accounted for 83% of all the deaths while October with 523 deaths registered the highest fatalities.
