L’Oréal East Africa, a subsidiary of the world’s leading beauty company L’Oréal Group from France, has officially relaunched its iconic skincare brand Nice & Lovely on the Ugandan market.

During the relaunch at Four Points Hotel in Kampala on Saturday, the company unveiled a new innovation — Nice & Lovely Lemon Extract Body Lotion — specially formulated to brighten, hydrate, and nourish the skin of Ugandan women.

Doreen Kathambi, the Brand Business Lead at L’Oréal East Africa said the product has returned onto the Ugandan market with a lot of vigour.

“Nice & Lovely is back in Uganda, bigger and better. As we said, we are painting the town yellow. We are big on innovation, and the current innovation is Nice & Lovely Lemon Extra Lotion. We decided that there’s no better way to enter the market than with something new and exciting that everyone will love for their skin,” said Kathambi.

She further explained that the new product is designed to enhance skin glow rather than alter skin tone.

“Lemon Extra is a brightening product. When we say brightening, we don’t mean lightening, we don’t mean bleaching; we mean enhancing the glow. All the ladies here are glowing and looking lovely, so we want to enhance this and continue to glow together through the body lotion,” she added.

Kathambi also noted that Kampala presents a great market opportunity and expressed their commitment to serving Ugandans with high-quality products.

“We can’t wait to go bigger, do better, and do everything we can to promote beauty in Uganda,” she concluded.

Victoria Karanja, General Manager of L’Oréal East Africa Consumer Products Division, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to the Ugandan market.

“We are here to invest, we are here to develop the market, we are here to create jobs, and we are here to contribute to the economy,” Karanja stated.

She highlighted that Nice & Lovely, which has been in existence for 25 years, is not just a Kenyan brand but an East African one. Now under L’Oréal, the number one beauty company in the world, the brand is bringing high-quality products to Uganda.

“As L’Oréal, we are very consumer-centric, meaning that we gather feedback from consumers to understand what they need and then innovate products based on that. In Uganda, skin tone management is a big topic. Consumers want that glow, so we created a product that delivers exactly that,” she explained.

State Minister for Investment and Privatization expressed happiness for the return of the product that she said has personal attachment with.

Anite noted that Nice & Lovely’s return signals the growing purchasing power of Ugandans.

“It also demonstrates that Uganda’s purchasing power has increased. In the past, when the company left, it was partly because people did not have the financial capacity to buy their products. Now, after conducting research, they have realized that Ugandans have regained their purchasing power, she said.

She made a case for investment into Uganda, noting, “Given that we have established a great market, Uganda is actually the best investment destination in the whole of Africa.”
