Kawempe North Member of Parliament-elect, Elias Nalukoola has been published in the gazette.
Nalukoola who was elected on March, 13 has not taken oath, 11 days later, because his name had not been put in the gazette.
This state of affairs led his party, National Unity Platform to raise concern over the matter.
However, on Monday afternoon, the Uganda Publishing and Printing Corporation(UPPC) which is responsible for the gazette published Nalukoola’s name and the final results of the Kawempe North by-election.
” Notice is hereby given by the Electoral Commission that the result for the Parliamentary by-election for the Directly Elected Member to Parliament, Kawempe Division North, Kampala Capital City in the Schedule to this Notice is hereby published in accordance with Section 78(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177,” the gazette said in part.
The development is a sigh of the relief for the lawyer whose swearing -in hanged in balance in absence of the gazette.
Earlier on Monday, Nalukoola, alongside National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary-General Lewis Rubongoya and Counsel George Musisi, visited the Electoral Commission headquarters seeking clarification on the delay in gazetting the results.
Their concerns were addressed within hours, as the gazette was subsequently published, confirming Nalukoola’s victory.
According to the official results, Nalukoola secured 17,939 votes, while his closest competitor, NUP’s Faridah Nambi, garnered 9,058 votes.
