Female soldiers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) serving under the United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) in Somalia have been urged to uphold resilience, discipline, and cooperation in their peacekeeping duties.
During a meeting at the UNGU headquarters in Mogadishu, Commanding Officer, Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye emphasized the importance of gender equality and teamwork.
Lt Col Ruyogoza urged female personnel to collaborate with their male counterparts in a professional and respectful environment, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring “everyone feels respected, valued, and supported.”
Major Topista Opar Giramia, the Gender and Female Engagement Team (FET) Officer, noted that such discussions enhance operational effectiveness and contribute to a more inclusive and professional work environment.
The meeting was attended by the UNGU Deputy Commander, Maj Jacob Gowan, and other staff officers.
