Hundreds of Christians converged at the Old Kampala Secondary School grounds for a joint prayer commemorating the suffering of Jesus Christ, an event organized by the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) as part of the Good Friday observances.
Believers from different Christian denominations began their spiritual journey from various cathedrals, heading to Old Kampala S.S., where the prayer was led by the Church of Uganda Archbishop, Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.
In his homily, Archbishop Kaziimba urged the faithful to turn to Jesus in times of hardship, saying, “Look onto Jesus in times of suffering and also emulate him as this will lead them to everlasting peace and life.”
The Catholic faithful, under the leadership of Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere of the Kampala Archdiocese, began their Way of the Cross procession from Rubaga Cathedral to Old Kampala. Thousands joined in the solemn journey of reflection and prayer.
Bishop Moses Banja of Namirembe Diocese also led a large Anglican congregation from Namirembe Cathedral in a procession to the joint prayer grounds, which drew participants of all ages, including youth, elders, and community leaders.
From the Orthodox Church, Archbishop Jeronymos Muzeeyi guided faithful from St. Nicholas Cathedral in Namungoona through a solemn Way of the Cross, mirroring Christ’s journey to Calvary.
The event also saw participation from top government officials and politicians including Vice President Jessica Alupo, Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye, and Members of Parliament Ssewungu, Balimwezo, Ssewanyana, Aloysius Mukasa.
Security personnel, led by Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, also joined in the prayers, with Onyango specifically praying for the men and women in uniform.
