The Electoral Commission (EC) has extended the display exercise for Special Interest Groups namely persons with disabilities, the youth, and older persons. until May 15, 2025.
This exercise will run concurrently with the national display of the voters register, which also concludes on the same date.
Julius Mucunguzi, the Spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, announced the extension on May 9, calling on all members of these groups to take full advantage of the remaining days to verify their details on the voters register.
“The display exercise for persons with disability, the youth, and older persons will continue from today, May 9th 2025, and conclude on the 15th of May 2025,” Mucunguzi said.
“That means the conclusion of the display exercise for special interest groups will align with the national display of the national voters register.”
Mucunguzi emphasized the importance of the exercise in achieving credible elections: “A clean register for special interest groups is key in ensuring that we have a clean and credible election.”
He urged voters to visit their villages and polling stations to confirm their particulars and report any irregularities.
He further noted that Electoral Commission officials are already deployed at polling stations and are operating daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, including weekends and public holidays.
“This is a very important exercise. Please, let us use this time and not wait for the last minute to begin rushing to the polling stations,” Mucunguzi appealed.
The EC encouraged all voters and community leaders to mobilize their communities to participate actively in the verification process.
