Human rights activist Praise Aloikin Opoloje has been granted non-cash bail of Shs500,000 by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court after spending 16 days on remand.
Chief Magistrate Jatiko Nankya also granted her three sureties—Spire Ssentongo, Adrian Jjuuko and Mercy Mundulu—non-cash bonds of Shs1 million each.
Aloikin, 27, was arrested on September 26, 2026, and presented before court on September 28, where she was charged with unlawfully using a SIM card registered in another person’s name, contrary to Regulation 29 of the Regulation of Interception of Communications Regulations, 2024.
According to the charge sheet, Aloikin allegedly used an MTN SIM card registered in the name of Martha Nalapa Tasima. The SIM card, number 0770-955341, was allegedly used in the Rubaga and Kampala Central areas in September 2026 to carry out an illegal activity.
The case stems from investigations into social media posts allegedly published through an account linked to Aloikin.
Court records indicate that Sgt Titus Mucunguzi of the Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS) came across the posts while investigating social media content concerning Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Investigators subsequently alleged that the SIM card used to publish the content was registered in Nalapa’s name but was being used by Aloikin.
The posts reportedly featured pictures of Gen Muhoozi accompanied by offensive comments, including one in which he was allegedly referred to as a “cabbage.”
