Speaker Anita Among has said the 11th Parliament operated without an effective opposition, claiming that most opposition members were “swallowed.”
She made the remarks while addressing Members of the 12th Parliament at a dinner held at Skyz Hotel Kampala to celebrate the 52nd birthday of Michael Nuwagira, Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
“For your information, in the 11th Parliament, I can proudly say we didn’t have opposition. The opposition got swallowed,” Among said.
She added that the 12th Parliament will adopt a tougher approach toward dissenting voices.
“In the 12th Parliament, it is going to be walloped, not swallowing, because when you wallop, it will not even come out. So this is going to be the easiest Parliament,” she said.
Among also emphasised her determination to push through her agenda, stating that she will do whatever it takes to achieve desired outcomes.
“When I love, I love without fear or favour. I will continue being there. I will spend whatever it takes to make sure that we get what we want to get,” she said.
