Apass under fire for comparing himself to late Mowzey Radio

Ugandan musician Alexander Bagonza, popularly known as Apass, has stirred controversy online after comparing himself to the late legendary artist Moses Ssekibogo, famously known as Mozey Radio.

Over the weekend, Apass took to his X (formerly Twitter) page, where he praised his artistic versatility, describing himself as a complete and unique artist.

In the same post, he acknowledged the late Radio as an amazing storyteller and poet but claimed he offers more due to his incorporation of multiple musical elements, including rap something he believes Radio did not do.

“It’s hard to compare art and artists because it’s all subjective. Plus, it would be fair if Radio was alive today. He was an amazing storyteller and poet,” Apass posted. “I am very different because I can do the storytelling and poetic music, but also have a lot of rap elements as a lyricist. So you can’t compare that. I can’t be compared to any Ugandan artist. I do what they do so well, and also do what they can’t do.”

His remarks were met with mixed reactions. While some fans praised his confidence and acknowledged his musical talent, others harshly criticized him for what they deemed an unfair and disrespectful comparison to one of Uganda’s most iconic musicians.

Burg256 commented, “Apass, you need to humble yourself. The late Mozey Radio was something different. I can try comparing him to Jamal and Toniks, but not you. Apass has nice songs, but comparing yourself to a legend like Mozey is madness.”

Another user, Oker256, mocked Apass, saying, “True, Apass is superior to the late Mowzey Radio but only in his own mind, in his house, and in his bed.”

Human2ashes dismissed Apass’s international relevance: “I’ve never seen Apass nominated for any BET awards. He’s more of a Jamaican wannabe artist and good at marketing perfumes online. The late Radio was globally recognized, and his music keeps his name alive. Apass, calm down you’re nothing.”

Amwinne Honest added, “Blowing your own trumpet is okay, but sometimes you go too far. You’re the only person who thinks you’re a better lyricist than Radio.”

Despite the backlash, some Ugandans came to Apass’s defense, acknowledging his multi-talented nature and unique style. Known for his confidence, Apass has consistently referred to himself as “The Teacher” and the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) in Uganda’s music industry.

His fans applaud his vocal range, lyrical depth, songwriting skills, and innovative marketing strategies.

Mozey Radio, who passed away in 2018 after a fatal altercation involving a bouncer, remains a beloved figure in Uganda’s music history.

Renowned for his unmatched vocals and songwriting brilliance, Radio alongside his musical partner Weasel created timeless hits that touched hearts across generations.
